Broadcom Coding With Commitment Winner

My AI Ear from SJKC Yu Chye, Winner of the Broadcom Coding With Commitment

The My AI Ear team, comprising three passionate students from SJKC Yu Chye, Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia—Jenny Hun Jiang Ling, Tan Zi Xue and Koay Yu Zhe—achieved the prestigious Broadcom Coding with Commitment award for their outstanding project. The My AI Ear team developed an innovative solution to support the 700 million people projected to experience disabling hearing loss by 2050 (World Health Organization, 2024). Their project aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and addresses the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community. Using Runlinc Online, the team created a project webpage accessible via mobile devices. The “Speech Assistant” feature allows users to introduce themselves, explain their inability to hear, and request others to speak to the device. Additionally, the “Voice Assistant” function records speech and converts it into text, which then appears on-screen under “Spoken Language.” This user-friendly solution empowers the deaf and hard of hearing to communicate more effectively, enhancing inclusivity and accessibility.
